Hello again! It’s been a while since my last post so time to catch up. Oops!! I have several new dolls to share pictures of, as well as my Mardi Gras doll that was shown in the August/Sept/Oct edition of Art Doll Quarterly magazine (but I will save that for another post). I hope everyone has had a wonderful summer so far. Mine has been quite memorable. My husband and I took a road trip through New Mexico, Arizona and California. I absolutely love the desert, mountains and our time relaxing on the beach. We also had a short mini vacation in Pensacola, FL. Being next to the water really gave me the inspiration to create a few mermaid pieces. (I believe I only sculpted two in my entire doll making days.)
The purple girl has already been sold however you can find the other one in my Etsy shop. She is currently my last remaining doll for sale. As always, layaway is available. Message me for details on how to split up your payments. 🙂
In mythology, Kitsune is a Japanese fox spirit also sometimes known as the nine tail fox. They possess magical abilities and often the number of tails they have will indicate how wise, old and powerful. They also have the ability to shape shift into human form, which is a concept I have always found inspiring. Like fairytales, mythology is something I grew up reading. Various trips to the library would result in a large pile of books focusing on Norse, Greek, Egyptian, Celtic and Asian mythologies. Japanese, in particular is one that always intrigued me. I have since been fascinated with Japanese culture, masks, costume, animation and theatre.
Instead of my normal ribbon jointed method, I decided to make this a standing sculpt so that I could place a lantern and japanese pipe (kiseru) in her hands. I also wanted to experiment with detailing the base which is something I have done in past sculpts and think I will continue in a new series of dolls.
She is now for sale in my Etsy shop. As always layaway is available.
Follow my art page for more pictures and updates on dolls.
Again, I am behind on my posts so working to update my last few dolls that I forgot to post.
Here is Celeste, one of my stuffed body doll with clay face, lower arms and hands. She is full of beautiful lace and has a little victorian feel to her. I was inspired by the work of the illustrator Sakizo an had the urge to create her after my recent convention. I adore this doll and think she is one of my favorites. In fact, if she doesn’t sell I may claim her myself and keep her forever haha. Right now she is proudly displayed on my wall along with my other art.
Please follow my art doll page. I love posting progress of my dolls and new works monthly.
She is available in my Etsy Shop
I had started this doll with the intention of having her completed for Easter but got so side tracked with the commission wedding dress as well as my own personal costumes. She is now completed and up in my Etsy shop waiting for a home. As always, layaway is available and I can break payments up to help make her easier to afford.
As with all my dolls, she is 100% handmade with no use of molds. Many hours and much love have gone into their construction. All pieces are original works that cannot be duplicated.
You can follow more of my work and progress on my art page.
I have been super busy working on a commission wedding dress (which I admit I am so happy to have out of my hands) as well as personal costumes for upcoming conventions that I had put away my clay for a short period of time. I believe its been about 3 months since my last doll and I am happy to be back sculpting. My head is filled with lots of new ideas and I have been going back to some of my old sketches which I am using for inspiration.
I am really excited about the direction of her that I have decided I will create a costume for myself based off this design (that is if my mind doesn’t drift to something else as it often does) Hoping to have it ready for my September/October Ren fair that I go to every year.
Anyway I still have a bit of work to do on her but hope to have ready for sale soon. You can follow my work and progress (which I love to share) on my art page.
I am a little late, but Happy New Years to all. Hope 2016 is a productive year for everyone. Things have been a little slow moving on my end due to a lot of life changes going on but I plan for things to pick up soon. Please follow my art page for more progress as I tend to update much more than I do my blog.
Here is a doll I started a month ago and am finally now able to get back to. She is near completion and will be available for sale sometime next week.
My favorite time of the year is halloween and I had a lot of plans for many themed dolls however unexpected life changes threw me off track and I am now behind. So far I have only been able to create my vampire doll but I still have plenty of time to at least do one or 2 more in time for halloween. I recently had an idea for a Beetlejuice inspired doll so hopefully I will be able to get to start working on that one very soon.
My vampire art doll is my newest one and has just been listed for sale in my Etsy shop. As always layaway is available so you can always message me about breaking up payments. For more of my dolls and works in progress on each piece please visit my art page.
She is hand sculpted using cernit clay without any molds so is truly a unique piece. Everything from the eyes to the costume is handmade with love, and lots of time has gone into her construction.
